My Crochet Journey (1)
I started crocheting since I was about 10...when we were taught as part of our home economics practicals and for some cosmic reason it just stuck. As a child, all I wanted to be was a knitwear designer, Crochet was my life, I couldn't do a day without it and every time I closed my eyes I saw myself crocheting away into wealth and probably stardom LOL. But I received my wake up slap when it was time to go to university, there was no crochet or knitting course in any Jamb form so....second choice was Mass Communication which I studied with all diligence and graduated in cat-walking colors (the grades were trying to fly small small). In this part of the world where I am from and live Knit/crochet is not really considered as a 'stable' career path, but a hobby but this hobby is like a burning flame in my heart that won't just go off.
I started making knit bags for my school mates for a little token while watching every possible how-to YouTube video on crochet. Simply put I didn't really need to enroll for any special course to become the expert crocheter that I am today (Thanks youtube!)
After school, I scuba dived into the NYSC programme (its a compulsory one-year youth empowerment time-wasting shindig by the government to foster unity, peace bla bla)...anyway I found myself in Ebonyi state. Ebonyi was live, it was fun, adventure, heart-breaks, life-threatening , gossip,back-stabbing drama that nolly-wood flicks are made of! And it is also where I first monetized my crochet work, I sold trendy bags and berets to students of the university and made cool cash at a point I had students from neighboring universities placing orders; trust me my hand wanted to bend....but then I gradually discovered that this 'hobby' couldn't be hidden///
